Public golf in Scottsdale: pick the kind of day, not the loudest name

Carl's take

Tournament venue, desert outing, central Scottsdale round or short course: start with the experience and compare public access separately from Carl’s live search coverage.

A tournament name is one kind of purchase

TPC Stadium hosts the WM Phoenix Open. Champions is the other public course at TPC Scottsdale. If the tournament connection matters to the group, buy the correct course; if it does not, compare both actual offers before paying for the name.

Troon North and Grayhawk also have two-course choices. The venue is not enough detail for an itinerary. Confirm Monument or Pinnacle, Raptor or Talon.

Central Scottsdale can make the day simpler

Silverado and McCormick Ranch are useful comparisons when the group wants a round closer to its Scottsdale plans. McCormick Ranch’s booking engine carries routing notices, so confirm the actual nines before assuming the historic course names describe the day.

Continental is another public option near Old Town. Use the Scottsdale operator page, since the similarly named Flagstaff club is a different destination.

Keep a destination round separate

We-Ko-Pa is in Fort McDowell. Talking Stick is another two-course venue with distinct O’odham and Piipaash selections. These belong in a regional comparison, but not in a promise that every course is a few minutes from your hotel.

Pick the course and tee choice for the group’s ability, then check maintenance, walking and reservation terms. A scenic description does not resolve any of those questions.

Public access and live search are different

Carl’s catalog includes official reservation paths for public courses. Live search currently supports a subset of those engines. The course pages identify which is which, so you can use a direct link without being told Carl has checked inventory he cannot reach.
