Cape Cod green fees collapse on September 8. The Captains in Brewster drops from $100 to $72 midweek. Dennis Pines goes from $76 to $60 before 1pm. Cranberry Valley falls from $90 to $70. The weather stays warm into October and the summer crowds go home after Labor Day. The best golf towns on the Cape are all municipal operations, which means real published rate cards and no membership gatekeeping. Why Cape Cod golf is municipal golf
The strongest public courses on the Cape are owned by towns. Brewster owns the 36-hole Captains complex. Harwich owns Cranberry Valley. The Town of Dennis owns both the Pines and the Highlands. Yarmouth owns Bayberry Hills and Bass River. Town ownership keeps the rate cards public. Every course below posts its full 2026 prices on its own site, which is more than half the courses within 30 minutes of Boston can say.
The drive from Boston runs 75 minutes to Sandwich on a clear morning and closer to two hours to Brewster or Harwich. Leave before 6:30am or the Route 6 backup decides your arrival time for you. Off-season the bridge traffic disappears and the whole Cape moves an hour closer.
The Captains, Brewster: 36 holes, $100 peak
The Captains is the anchor. Two full 18s, the Port and the Starboard, both par 72, on 1000 Freemans Way in Brewster. Peak season through September 7, every day is $100 before 2pm, $70 from 2 to 4pm, and $55 after 4. From September 8 through October 12 the weekday morning rate drops to $72 and weekends to $93. Carts are $26 per rider. From October 26 to the end of the year, 18 holes is $50 before 1pm.
Booking is the interesting part. Daily fee tee times can be reserved as far in advance as you want through the online system at captainsgolfcourse.com, or through the advance reservation line at (508) 896-1716 ext. 103. That is rare. Almost every course near Boston caps you at 4 to 14 days. If you know your Cape week in July, you can lock the tee time in March. Inventory also lists on GolfNow and TeeOff.
Cranberry Valley, Harwich: $90 peak, $35 twilight
Cranberry Valley is Harwich's town course and the tightest rate card on the Cape. Late May through late August is $90 on weekdays, and $90 covers Friday through holiday Mondays from May 8 to October 12. September drops midweek to $70. The value plays live at the edges of the day: $65 midweek after 1pm, $40 for the back nine in the first hour of play, and $35 twilight after 3:30pm, which moves to 4pm in summer. Harwich residents pay $50 flat. Carts are $26 for 18.

Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands: two courses, one rate card
The Town of Dennis runs two 18s about ten minutes apart. The Pines in East Dennis is the test, long and tree-lined. The Highlands is shorter, more open, and friendlier to a mid-handicap. Both share identical pricing. Peak season, May 8 through September 7, is $76 before 11am, $64 from 11 to 2pm, $49 from 2 to 4pm, and $35 after 4pm, every day of the week. From September 8 to October 12, weekday mornings drop to $60. Carts are $25 per rider for non-members.
Time-of-day pricing every day is unusual. There is no weekend premium in peak season. A Saturday 10am at the Pines costs the same $76 as a Tuesday. Booking runs through Chelsea reservations online at dennis.chelseareservations.com, and you can arrange times 8 or more days out by calling (508) 385-8347 ext. 6. The Pines closes for the season on Thanksgiving. The Highlands stays open all winter at $38.
Bayberry Hills and Bass River, Yarmouth: the closest cluster
Yarmouth is 20 minutes closer to Boston than Brewster, and its two courses cover both ends of the market. Bayberry Hills is the modern championship layout, 7,172 yards from the tips, at $80 weekday and $95 weekend mornings through October 18, dropping to $50 and $60 after 2pm. Bass River is the historic one, laid out along its namesake river, at $65 weekday and $75 weekend before 2pm. Carts are $25 at both. There is also a 9-hole Links course at Bayberry for $43 after 2pm.

The play for a Boston golfer is a September or October weekday. Rates drop 25 to 30 percent, the bridge traffic is gone, and the fairways are still full summer turf.
