MetroWest has the widest price spread of any golf region near Boston. Juniper Hill in Northborough is $54 to walk 18 on a weekday. Shaker Hills in Harvard, twenty minutes up the road, uses dynamic pricing that moves with the weather and charges $30 a player just to book more than eight days out. Same drive from the city, completely different products.
This is the corridor west of Route 128, roughly Weston out to Northborough and Harvard. It has more public golf than the North Shore and the South Shore combined, and no two courses handle booking the same way.
Juniper Hill, Northborough
Two full 18s on one property, which almost nothing else near Boston offers. Riverside is the wider, more open course running along the Assabet River. Lakeside is narrow and tree-lined with views of Lake Chauncy. It is a family-owned daily fee facility in its 95th year, and there are no memberships.
Green fees are $54 weekday and $59 weekend for 18, or $33 and $36 for nine. Seniors 60 and up pay $38 on weekdays, college students with an ID pay the same, and juniors pay $30.
The catch is the cart rule. From late April through late September, weekend and holiday tee times before 1:05pm require 18 holes with a cart, and no senior or discount rates apply. A cart is $52 for two riders. So a weekend morning round for two is closer to $170 than the $118 the green fee table suggests. Cancellations need 12 hours notice or you get charged a no-show fee. Shaker Hills, Harvard
A Brian Silva design and the best pure golf course in this part of the state. It also has the most complicated pricing.
Shaker Hills runs dynamic pricing that changes by season, day, time, weather, and demand. There is no rate card to quote. What you pay is whatever the tee sheet says when you look. Every rate includes golf, cart, range access, tax, and fees, so the number you see is the number you pay.
The booking rules matter more than the price. Standard tee times open seven days out. If you want to book further ahead, Shaker Hills sells advance times 8 to 90 days out for a non-refundable $30 per player fee. Download their app and get the free Shaker Pass and that drops to $25, plus you get eight-day booking instead of seven. Cancellation is a strict 24 hours, and no-shows get charged in full.
Seniors 60 and up, military, veterans, and first responders get 15 percent off Monday through Friday before 2pm. Juniors get 25 percent off after 2pm, no cart. There is also a replay rate for anyone who finishes 18 and wants more, bookable only within the hour after your round.

Sandy Burr, Wayland
The closest thing MetroWest has to a classic. A Donald Ross design about 30 minutes west of downtown, running $60 to $75 depending on day and time. It is the pick when you want architecture without driving to Harvard or paying Plymouth prices. See the Sandy Burr review.
Cyprian Keyes, Boylston
27 holes: an 18-hole championship course built in 1997 at 6,844 yards and par 72, plus a separate 9-hole par 3. The par 3 course is the reason to know about this place. It is a real short course, not a pitch-and-putt, and it is the best place in MetroWest to take someone who is still learning without holding up a full 18. Marlborough Country Club
Private, but it takes public play on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tee times go up to five days out by calling the pro shop at (508) 481-5340. It will never appear on a booking platform because there is no online inventory. If you want a private-club round on a Monday without knowing a member, this is the way.
Stow Acres, and what happened to it
Stow Acres used to be the MetroWest destination, two Geoffrey Cornish 18s including a course that hosted the 1995 U.S. Amateur Public Links. That is over. The North was cut to nine holes and that remaining nine is closed for the 2026 season. Only the South is playable, at $50 midweek and $65 on weekends, and conditions have slipped.
Third-party listings still show Stow Acres as a two-course facility. They are wrong. The full Stow Acres review covers what is actually open.
Leo J. Martin, Weston
Closed for all of 2026. DCR shut the course for construction with a 2027 reopening. The driving range stays open. If you were counting on the cheapest 18 inside Route 128 this summer, you are not getting it. Details here.
