Sagamore Spring has been taking public tee times since 1929, and the same family still owns it. Louis K. Luff and his son Richard designed and built the course on their own land in Lynnfield. When it opened, it was the only 18-hole course north of Boston that anyone could just walk onto. Almost a hundred years later that is still the pitch: par 70 at 5,936 yards, 35 minutes from the city, $54 to walk on a Monday.
The club sits at 1287 Main St in Lynnfield across 180 acres of maple, pine, and poplar. It is not a championship test and it does not pretend to be. It is a course built to be played often.
The course
At 5,936 yards from the tips, Sagamore Spring is short by modern standards. Par is 70. The fairways roll through mature trees with enough movement in the ground to make you think about angles. A long hitter can take it apart. Everyone else gets a course that gives them a look at every green.
Golfer ratings sit around 4.3. The praise is consistent: fun layout, good greens, staff who actually want you there. The complaints are also consistent, and they are about pace of play. This is a busy daily-fee course in a dense part of the North Shore. A summer weekend morning can run long. Play a weekday if you care about finishing in four hours.
Sagamore put a new fleet of Yamaha carts on the property for 2026 with onboard GPS. The course is walkable, though, and at 5,936 yards there is no reason not to.
2026 rates
Here is the peak-season sheet. One note worth knowing before you go: the club posts these on a page still labeled 2025, so call the shop at (781) 334-3151 if you want a number confirmed.

Two rules shape how you plan a round here. Tee times are required every day, so there is no walking on. And 18-hole play is mandatory until 1pm on Fridays, weekends, and holidays. If you wanted a quick weekend nine, you are waiting until the afternoon or going somewhere else.
Regulars should look at the weekday 10-Paks. Ten 18-hole rounds for $459 works out to about $46 a round, 15 percent off the walk-up weekday rate. Valid Monday through Thursday only. If you play the North Shore ten times a summer, that is the cheapest way to do it.
Booking, and the 2026 platform change
Sagamore moved to a new online tee time system for 2026. Your old account does not carry over automatically. You have to create a new booking account, and the club is explicit that you must use the same email and phone number as your old one or your loyalty points, 10-Paks, and gift card balances will not transfer.
The live tee sheet runs on ForeUp. You can also book by phone at (781) 334-3151. Sagamore Golf also operates Sagamore-Hampton in North Hampton, New Hampshire, and a golf center, so make sure the booking page you land on is the Lynnfield one. It is an easy mistake and the two courses are an hour apart.
Who it's for
Sagamore Spring is the North Shore weekday round. It is cheap enough to be a habit, short enough to walk after work, and old enough to have some character. It is not the place to bring a visiting single-digit player who wants to be tested. For that, Red Tail in Devens is the call.
