Whirlwind Cattail vs Devil’s Claw: choose the course, then the offer

Carl's take

Whirlwind’s Cattail and Devil’s Claw are separate Gary Panks layouts at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler. The operator publishes a scorecard for each. Choose the name on the confirmation rather than treating “Whirlwind” as one interchangeable tee sheet.

There are two rounds to choose from

Whirlwind’s Cattail and Devil’s Claw are separate Gary Panks layouts at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler. The operator publishes a scorecard for each. Choose the name on the confirmation rather than treating “Whirlwind” as one interchangeable tee sheet.

For a mixed group, open both scorecards and look at the tees you would actually play. The longest set of tees is not a sensible default for everyone. A useful group decision starts with an honest length and a start time that fits the day.

Public reservations and Whirlwind + are different paths

The operator’s “Book Your Tee Time” link opens the public booking engine. “Reserve + Tee Times” belongs to the separate Whirlwind + product. A visitor should compare public offers unless the group has bought the relevant product.

This matters when a search result appears cheaper than the offer you can actually reserve. Match the channel, course, group and date before deciding that two prices describe the same round.

Check maintenance before comparing the layouts

Whirlwind links a current maintenance calendar and separate single-player information from its official site. Read those pages for your dates before settling the itinerary. If one course has no online starts, that empty result alone does not explain why.

Ask for the named layout when requesting a live search. If you are happy with either, say so; the reply should still keep the courses and their booking choices separate. No returned start means no online opening was found for that request, not a confirmed closure.

Read the rating at the right level

Google’s Whirlwind listing covers the facility, so its community score can appear on both course guides. It does not provide two independent layout scores. Golf publication recognition is shown separately and links to the publisher.

Choose the course using its own scorecard, current access and the offer you can book. Use recent reviews as another opinion on the venue. Carl’s guide is based on public sources; it is not a claim that we played both courses and ranked them ourselves.
