Five Iron Golf has 11 Trackman simulators five minutes from Government Center. You can play Pebble Beach in January without leaving downtown Boston, get real launch data on every shot, and grab a drink at the bar between nines. That's the pitch for indoor golf near Boston, and for a November-through-March window, it's a solid one.
There are now eight or nine legitimate indoor simulator venues within 20 miles of the city. They are not all the same. Some are serious practice facilities. Some are sports bars with bays in the back. Here is what each one actually offers and what it costs.
Why go indoors
Three reasons to book a simulator bay instead of waiting for a clear day.
November through March.Boston's outdoor season runs roughly April through November on a good year. The stretch from Thanksgiving to Patriots' Day is either too cold, too wet, or too short on daylight to play comfortably. Simulators fill that gap cleanly.
Trackman data.Playing outdoor rounds is fun but tells you almost nothing about your swing. A Trackman session gives you carry distance, clubhead speed, spin rate, launch angle, and shot shape on every ball. That's the kind of feedback that actually moves the needle. See the golf lessons near Boston post for how to pair simulator time with instruction.
Late-night weeknight play. Most outdoor courses near Boston are done by dusk. Simulator venues stay open until 10pm or later on weeknights. If your schedule doesn't allow weekend morning tee times, indoor play is the practical option. On rainy days, it's also the obvious fallback.
Five Iron Golf (Government Center + Seaport)
Five Iron is the biggest name in Boston indoor golf right now, and they have two locations in the city.
The Government Center location sits near City Hall Plaza and Faneuil Hall at 1 Washington St. It has 11 Trackman simulators, a full bar and restaurant, PGA professional instructors on-site, and private event space for corporate outings or group bookings. Bay rental runs roughly $40 to $55 per hour. Book at fiveirongolf.com/locations/boston-government-center.
The Seaport location is the second Boston outpost. Same Trackman setup, same concept, better for anyone coming from South Boston or the waterfront neighborhood.
Five Iron is the right call if you want a social round with a group, instruction on a Trackman, or a place to host a private event. The bar and restaurant make it easy to turn a simulator session into a night out.
City Golf Boston
City Golf Boston sits in the Financial District and runs a more instruction-focused operation than Five Iron. They have PGA professional instructors on staff, simulator bay rentals, an indoor putting green, and club fitting for all major brands. Junior programs are available.
If your goal is working on your game rather than entertainment, City Golf Boston is the better fit. The putting green alone is worth noting for anyone trying to sharpen their short game through winter. Book at citygolfboston.com.
X-Golf (Burlington + Walpole)
X-Golf has two locations outside Boston with a sports bar format. Burlington is about 12 miles northwest of the city. Walpole is roughly 18 miles south, making it the natural option for the South Shore crowd.
Both locations run multiple simulator bays, cocktails and food, and host tournaments and private events. Think of it as closer to a sports bar that happens to have great golf simulators, rather than a practice facility. Good for groups, corporate outings, or a casual night out. See xgolf.com for locations and booking.
PureDrive Golf, Woburn
PureDrive Golf is 10 miles north of Boston in Woburn. It runs TrackMan launch monitors, golf lessons, and club fitting. There is no bar. No restaurant. It is a serious practice facility, not a night-out venue.
That is not a knock. If you want to put in real work on your swing with data feedback and a qualified instructor, PureDrive is purpose-built for that. It belongs on this list next to City Golf Boston as the two most practice-oriented options near the city. For more on the practice landscape, see the best golf ranges near Boston.
Lynx Fitness Club, Back Bay
Lynx Fitness Club in Back Bay has three Topgolf Swing Suite bays. Non-members can book them. No car required from anywhere inside the city.
The Swing Suite setup is not the same as a Trackman bay. It is more game-focused than data- focused. But for a city resident who wants to swing a club without taking public transit to the suburbs, Lynx is the most convenient option in Boston proper.
Golf Lounge 18
Golf Lounge 18 has multiple locations on the North Shore and South Shore. Full menus, bay rentals, and a format that works well for groups. If you are coming in from the suburbs rather than the city, Golf Lounge 18 covers both corridors.
What to expect on price
Bay rental at most Boston-area simulator venues runs $35 to $55 per hour. Five Iron lands at $40 to $55. Budget for the full hour even if you are playing with two or three people since the bay rate is per bay, not per person.
A PGA lesson on top of bay time runs $80 to $150 per hour depending on the instructor and venue. City Golf Boston and PureDrive Golf are the two places where that investment makes the most sense, given the instruction-first setup.
Call ahead on weekends. Popular venues like Five Iron Government Center book up days in advance on Saturday and Sunday. Weeknight availability is usually much better.

Weekend simulator bays at Five Iron and City Golf Boston book up two to three days in advance, and most venues don't surface real-time availability anywhere in one place. When the weather finally clears and you want to get back outside, that's where Carl comes in. He covers 135 public courses within 30 miles of Boston, checks GolfNow, TeeOff, and calls pro shops directly, so you get actual availability instead of a sold-out page. Text Carl your preferences and he'll find your next outdoor round.
