Poquoy Brook is $44 to walk 18 holes Monday through Thursday. That buys you a 6,871-yard Geoffrey Cornish design with a 129 slope, 50 minutes south of Boston, on a course that hosted the Massachusetts Open three times. It also buys you the lowest GolfPass rating of any full-length public course we have covered: 2.3 out of 5, with conditions scored 2.0. Both of those things are true at the same time. Here is how to think about the gap.
The course
Cornish drew the plans in the late 1950s. The Marcos family built it, opening the front nine in 1964 and the back nine in 1968 on 135 acres in Lakeville, a few minutes off Route 495 and Route 24. It changed hands in 1992 and again in 2016, when Brian Conefrey bought it. The current owner has been in place for a decade, which matters when you read the conditioning history below.
Par 72 with four par 5s and four par 3s. The blues are 6,871 yards, rated 73.7 with a slope of 129 on the club's own scorecard. The whites are 6,291 yards at 70.2 and 125. The golds are 5,451. You will see 6,762 yards and a 126 slope on Golf Digest and GolfPass. Those are older numbers. 18Birdies matches the club at 73.7 and 129.
It is parkland golf: trees, wetlands, and a stream that crosses several holes. Bentgrass greens, bluegrass fairways, and the greens are big. Bay State Golf, which reviewed a round in 2022, called out their “sheer size” as the defining feature and found no wow moments before the closing stretch. The 2nd is the number one handicap hole at 422 yards. Then holes 15 through 18 carry the course. The 15th is a 200-yard par 3 to the wildest green on the property, with a large mound behind it. The 16th and 17th are par 4s of 461 and 453 yards with out of bounds left, blind or downhill approaches, and two of the smallest greens on the course. The 18th is a 481-yard par 5 that most players reach with three irons rather than a driver and a fairway wood.
Conditions: the real story
Poquoy Brook's reputation has swung hard since 2016. GolfPass reviews from 2017 and 2018 describe greens that were “gone” and poor fairways. By 2019 and 2020, after a new superintendent, reviewers called it “back in prime condition.” Then 2025 went backwards. A July 2025 review reported crabgrass across the course and soggy ground. An August 2025 review described crabgrass tee boxes and bunkers “like concrete.” Greens were repeatedly called extremely slow.
An October 2025 review said the course was “night and day better than last year,” with grass on every green, though still slow. An August 2026 comment on 18Birdies said the tee boxes were unimpressive and the course had “gone downhill.” So the trend line is not clean. You are booking a course that can be in good shape and can be rough, and the difference is not something the tee sheet will tell you.
The ratings reflect that. GolfPass sits at 2.3 across 25 reviews with 40.7% recommending, but its formula weights recent reviews heavily and the raw star count is 17 four or five star reviews out of 25. 18Birdies has 366 reviews at 3.9, with value at 3.8 and condition at 3.6. TripAdvisor is 3.4 across 33. Friendliness is the one sub score GolfPass rates well at 4.0, and the pub gets consistent praise for the food.
Pace is the other recurring complaint. Reviewers in 2017 and 2021 both reported five hour weekend rounds with no ranger. Cart path only rules on dry days come up twice, in 2020 and 2023. Weekday mornings avoid most of this.

The posted card is dated April 2025 and the live tee sheet for late September 2026 shows the same prices, so the club has not raised rates in two seasons. There is no twilight rate. There is no senior or junior rate. The price is flat all day, and the only late day change is that 18-hole carts stop renting at 2:30pm and 9-hole carts at 4:30pm. A seven day season pass for 2026 is $2,750, unlimited golf, carts not included.
At $44 walking, Poquoy Brook is among the cheapest full-length 18s within an hour of the city. The comparison set is in the cheapest rounds post. At $84 for 18 with a cart on a Saturday, the value case is harder, and the reviewers who paid $69 to $80 and got a five hour round are the ones writing the one star reviews.
How to book
Poquoy Brook uses ForeUp with a seven day window and 10 minute intervals. Every tee time is prepaid. Your card is charged when you book, including by phone, and you pay for the number of players you reserve. Refunds require 24 hours notice. You can drop a player from the booking online or by calling (508) 947-5261 up to that same deadline. Singles cannot book online and have to call. Online booking runs 6am to 6pm.
The course does not sell tee times on GolfNow. There is a details page with no inventory and zero reviews. Olde Scotland Links, Acushnet River Valley and Bay Pointe all sell through GolfNow, so if you are scanning the app for South Coast deals, Poquoy Brook will not appear next to them.
The alternatives 15 minutes away
Olde Scotland Links in Bridgewater is the course most Poquoy Brook golfers are choosing against. It is 6,790 yards with a 126 slope, links style, and GolfPass has it at 4.4 across 1,175 reviews. It books 10 days out online and costs more. Acushnet River Valley, a Brian Silva town course from 1998, is $57 walking or $69 riding Monday through Friday and $62 or $82 on weekends, with a 4.6 rating across 723 GolfPass reviews. Bay Pointe in Onset is cheaper on GolfNow but rated 2.9. LeBaron Hills is a mile away and private.
Put plainly: for $13 more walking on a weekday, and the same $69 riding, Acushnet River Valley gets you a course rated two full points higher. Who should play it
Play Poquoy Brook on a weekday morning if you want a long, honest par 72 for $44 and you can live with slow greens and some crabgrass on the tees. The routing is better than the rating. The pub is open to the public daily from 11am to 9pm with 30 taps and live music on Saturdays, and it is a reasonable end to a round. Skip a Saturday morning at $84 with a cart unless someone who played it that week tells you the greens are rolling.
Poquoy Brook's problem is that the tee sheet cannot tell you what shape the course is in this week, and the course is not on GolfNow where you would compare it against Olde Scotland Links and Acushnet anyway.
