Walking golf in Scottsdale: permission, price and cart paths

Carl's take

Ask three separate questions: can you walk, does walking change the price, and are carts restricted? The answers need not match.

The long shadow of a walker carrying a slender golf bag crosses a sandy trail; the actual person is outside the frame. Warm sepia and sage monochrome ink wash on textured watercolor paper, spare graceful strokes, a faraway flag, landscape.

A walkable-looking course is not a policy

Flat ground or short distances on a map do not establish that an operator permits walking. Start with the actual policy. Then ask whether walking changes the fee; some offers include riding whether you use it or not.

If the group wants to carry, say so before reserving. A cart-inclusive package, a walking green fee and a push-cart rental can produce different totals even when the start time is identical.

Two operators give clear starting points

Talking Stick explicitly permits walking and offers complimentary push carts subject to availability. Guests may bring their own push carts. That is a useful written policy to start a walking-course comparison.

Augusta Ranch also welcomes walkers. Its rate page says standard fees are for walking unless otherwise stated and quotes an extra per-person riding-cart fee. Compare the total you intend to buy, not the lowest number in the result.

Cart-path-only does not mean an easy ride

After overseeding, a riding round can include substantial walking between the path and the ball. Ask about restrictions for your date, especially when someone in the group chose a cart because they cannot comfortably cover those distances.

A restriction at one course does not establish the policy at another. Check each round separately and tell the operator about any access need before buying.

How to choose

Pick an area first, then compare courses with confirmed walking permission. Carrying around a destination course may be the whole point for your group; for someone else, a convenient executive round is the better fit.

Carl can search supported sheets and identify walking or riding prices returned by the public engine. He cannot turn a riding-only offer into a walking discount or override a course policy.
